So, although it has been a while since I last posted something to my blog, I figure the One Game a Month challenge is as good as any for starting my writing this year. More specifically you can follow my progress on their site. For the year I will be working with Duncan Bell and probably others too during the period of the year to finish a game every month.

So, just for a minor update, I spent a good few hours on Friday, and another 4 or so today building the breakout board. I am still missing 14 3V3 zener diodes, but I will go purchase more tomorrow at university. Apart from that I have successfully done simple controlling of LEDs using aRPi as an experiment, and I will do more testing on my breakout board tomorrow (which pins work, etc. mostly making sure my noob skills were good enough). I havent yet finished the IP Updating, but I will do that through this coming week, and when that is done will begin working with the Xbox Kinect!

Ok, so yesterday I received my Raspberry Pi, which alone is great news, but even better news is how easy it was to get running. This post is dedicated solely to my experience and how to replicate the experience (even though there are many of these posts already, why not, right?)

So, things have been going rather fascinatingly for me lately, and all in all there is just too much to share in one go, so I figured while I am having difficulty in finishing my (monolithic) intended tutorial-esque post off to my satisfaction I need to keep the information rolling on my blog, or there would be no point me having it!

I have been slacking lately with my blogging due to it being exam time and blogging being low priority, but I have some free time today as well as a topic to talk about. So after waiting in the queue to order with RS to get a Raspberry Pi (RPi) on Thursday I got a notification that I could order, which I did immediately, and my unit should be sent/arrive some time in the next 6 weeks according to RS. So, I thought I would share what my project for the RPi will be.

Having ~45 minutes total free today, I decided to do what I suggested; things that would make the algorithm more useful (from my last post).
The changes I made were:

So, today, I took a break from studying, and decided to try working on my own random dungeon generation. My goal was simple. Create 3 random rooms, and connect them. My limitations were also simple, do it in C++, do it will minimal algorithmic implementation (as in A* and the likes thereof). The end result I am quite happy with:

So, after some careful (and in some not-as-careful) moments of consideration, my general idea for RapidXNA while useful will end up being less than ideal for what I want to achieve. The major points that are causing this can be summarised quite concisely:

So I decided not to blog last week mostly due to the fact that I gave a talk at the South African Game Development Community meet in JHB, so I figured having talked enough at the meet I would rather share the video for people that havent yet seen it (or werent there). Im posting this today as I would rather not write something on Wednesday (after my Math 2 exam).

You will notice that there are ongoing updates happening to RealDev, and as part of this there is a chance that I break certain parts of the site. (e.g. the Image Gallery is not back up again)
I fully intend on getting the full functionality back as soon as I find the correct patches and updates to get everything working as intended.
